About our Founder

Kaitlyn was diagnosed with breast cancer at 27 years old. This disease was not new to her as her family has dealt with tragic loss from breast cancer which took her mom at just 33 years old. Kaitlyn lost her mom when she was only 6 years old. Her amazing father raised her and 2 big sisters. Her father always encouraged her to follow her passions, which led to this foundation. Kaitlyn was diagnosed on October 23, 2019, this fell 2 days after the anniversary of losing her mother. Once she was diagnosed, she found out that she was BRCA1 positive. This upset her and her family because Kaitlyn could have been doing precautionary scans and caught her diagnosis sooner. No changing that but only to fight forward and fight for her life. She went through 6 months of IV chemo after getting a port put in to try and save her veins. That didn’t work out too well, but she is okay. Her body just did not like having foreign items in it. She could have just had a single mastectomy but instead went for a double mastectomy to be safe. This helps lessen her chance of recurrence of the terrible disease. Being that she was fighting triple negative meant that her chances of recurrence were still unfortunately high, but she did not give up easily. Every time she spoke with her doctors, they knew that it would be best to throw everything at it to make sure it destroyed the cancer. That meant 6.5 weeks of radiation after healing from her double mastectomy. Radiation is no joke. Those burns hurt like no other! Thankfully with the right treatment they healed after basically bathing in different lotions to help them heal. While those were healing Kaitlyn went on to 6 months of oral chemotherapy. This is where her butt got kicked. Those side effects got the better of her. Vertigo was probably the worst of them all and had to go through physical therapy to try and manage the side effects. Her final step was reconstruction to get rid of the nasty expander rocks. Kaitlyn had a DIEP flap reconstruction and that took a lot out of her to heal from but is beyond happy with her choice. She then went on to take tamoxifen for the next 5 years to help lessen her chance of recurrence even more but that stopped right before 4 years as her liver wasn’t having it anymore. She and her doctors are always looking at options to keep Kaitlyn being able to enjoy her life and never have to deal with this nasty disease again if we can all help it. This helps that Kaitlyn is following her passion and helping others through this foundation while helping those fighting try and keep a smile on their faces however she can.
